Please see my website for more information: www.BirthingRight.com “Only when women control the territory in which they give birth can they reclaim childbirth. Only when midwives and mothers build a strong supportive sisterhood which enables women to give birth in their own way, in their own time, and in their own place, can midwifery be reborn.” Sheila Kitzinger
I am a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM-TN) and currently licensed in the state of Tennessee, in an active homebirth practice. I consider midwifery a noble profession and a true calling. I am dedicated to nurturing, educating and empowering women in pregnancy and childbirth. My practice is based on informed choice—with each hour long appointment providing time for education, discussion, and building of trust. This enables families to make well-informed choices, while actively creating the best possible birth experience for them. Many families are choosing waterbirth as an option and one which I encourage.
I provide a full program of individualized and wholistic care for women during prenatal, birth and postpartum. I have an extensive knowledge of herbs, having studied both formally and informally for the last 10 years, and approach my life with a holistic mindset, I am currently studying homeopathy. I have had 2 natural births, (way back in theearly 70's) and have had the joy of being present for 4 of my 5 grandchildren's births, 2 of which were at home.
My practice is in partnership with another CPM and generally includes two apprentice midwives as well. I cover a large geographic region which includes the greater Atlanta area, North Georgia, and extends into the greater Chattanooga area.
Birth is a key event in a woman and families life. I respect the culture, faith and lifestyle of all the families I work with, helping to create a loving and sacred birth experience. I welcome and encourage participation of the spouse/partner and other children at the prenatals and birth.
I am a Secretary of the Georgia Midwifery Association (GMA) and a member of the Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA). I am actively involved in Georgia Friends of Midwives (GFOM) working to change the birth politics of Georgia. I am also a member of the Tennessee Midwifery Association (TMA) and a former board member of the Complementary Heath Education Organization (CHEO) in the Chattanooga area.
I also offer Maya Abdominal Massage. This technique applies anatomy, physiology, herbology and naprapathy, (study of the ligaments, jointsand muscles), with Ancient Maya healing techniques to address common female and male complaints. When reproductive organs shift, they can constrict normal flow of blood and lymph, and disrupt nerve connections. By shifting the uterus back into place, homeostasis, or the natural balance of the body, is restored in the pelvic area and the surrounding organs. Toxins are flushed and nutrients that help to tonetissue and balance hormones are restored to normal order. This is essential for women's overall health throughout her lifetime and especially during pregnancy, labor, and delivery. For more information please see www.arvigomassage.com
